Boatswain whistle of brass and copper, a replica of the boatswain whistle that was used in the 1920s. Length 13 cm – 5.2 inches, width 2 cm - 0.78 inches, height 2.5 cm - 0.98 inches. Very Good condition.
This type of whistle is composed of a tube, called a cannon, attached to the end of the handle, called a keel, and a perforated barrel-shaped ball, called a buoy, from which the sound comes out. It is held at the height of the keel, between thumb and forefinger; with the other fingers you can adjust the intensity and modulation of the sound.
The remainder of the antique whistle is a flat piece of metal under the tube that holds the call together, and a keyring that links a long chain that sits around the neck.
This boatswain whistle is also the official badge of the Quartermaster, Chief Boatswain's Mate, and Boatswain's Mate, and also in the Sea Cadets.
